Players' skills are attached to their melee weapon, their long-range weapon, and their defensive stance i.e. Once a character has leveled up, they get three points to spend on their stats (strength, will, stamina and dexterity), and one skill point to use in their skill tree. A character will level up when enough experience points have been gained. However, the player is limited in the number of times they can summon him, and he can be summoned only when the player is in an outdoors location.Ĭharacters gain experience by defeating enemies and completing quests. War in the North is an action role-playing hack and slash game played from a third-person perspective. If it wasn't for the game's graphics, combat and connection to the Lord of the Rings franchise, I would've given it a failing score.Works on: Windows (XP, VISTA, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11) Its just not a very good game, and I cannot recommend you buy it. It goes from easy, to insanely hard, to easy. Instead of placing visible barriers, you will constantly hit invisible walls when playing. There is no character development (there doesn't need to be, but in this case, it couldn't hurt), barely any unique story, and the coding is sub par. The english characters of the franchise are voiced by American voice actors, which I find to be unacceptable. It started off strong, with great graphics and good combat. But, I was very disappointed with this game. My dad got me any and all the Lord of the Rings video games out there, and let me tell you, I loved all of em. My dad got me any and all the Lord of the Rings video games out there, and let me tell you, I Growing up, I was a huge Lord of the Rings fan. Growing up, I was a huge Lord of the Rings fan. This game will please LOTR fans, but unfortunately it will not make any new LOTR fans. I payed $20 for the game, and I feel like I got what I payed for out of it, but no more. I had no issues with bugs like some of the other guys. I actually found some of the voice acting pretty lame at times, but it was average on the whole, I suppose. The three playable characters have different play styles which can accommodate most players But it's still just a hack&slash. Equipment management is pretty lacking, with a rather unfriendly equipment interface. The game play is a classic hack&slash with little variation. That being said, the story is very linear, and the same should be said about the levels. Accurate and interesting LOTR lore is what kept me wanting to play. This game is great for RPG'ers that love getting into the nitty-gritty when it comes to learning about other characters and lore of the game.
